CarCoders is where you can take apart, rebuild, code and race real RC machines. Program gyros, tune ESCs, configure electronics — or just pick up a controller and have fun. Your call.
CarCoders puts real RC cars in your hands — These are not your parents old toy cars. These are proper machines with programmable electronics, gyros, tuneable suspension, and real performance. You'll take them apart down to the chassis, learn how every component works, rebuild them, and then code the electronics that control how they drive.
It's mechanical engineering, electronics, coding and problem-solving all in one. And when you've built it and tuned it, you get to race it. If you'd rather just grab a controller and drive, that's absolutely fine too — everyone's welcome.
There's something for everyone at CarCoders, whether you want to get deep into the engineering or just want to race.
Take RC cars apart piece by piece — suspension, drivetrain, steering, differentials. Understand how every component works, then put it all back together.
Learn how ESCs, receivers, servos and battery systems connect. Solder, wire, and configure the electrical systems that bring the car to life.
Program gyro settings, tune ESC parameters, configure throttle curves and braking. The software side of making a car handle exactly how you want it.
Mount and wire FPV cameras to see from the driver's seat. Links directly with DroneCoders skills — same video systems, different vehicle.
Adjust suspension geometry, gear ratios, tyre compounds and weight distribution. The mechanical tuning that turns a car from okay to competitive.
Put everything to the test on race day. Timed laps, head-to-head racing, team challenges — or just casual laps with a controller. All welcome.
Modern RC cars are packed with technology. At CarCoders, you'll get hands-on with all of it — the mechanical, the electrical and the software.
Every component is something to learn from. Taking a car apart isn't just maintenance — it's an engineering lesson in miniature.
The brains of the drivetrain. Program throttle response, braking force, drag brake percentage and thermal protection.
Onboard gyros detect rotation and adjust steering to keep the car stable. Learn to program sensitivity, gain and dead zones.
LiPo battery management, voltage monitoring, safe charging and discharge rates. The power behind every lap.
Transmitters, receivers, channel mixing and failsafes. Understand the radio link between your controller and the car.
Camera, video transmitter, antennas and goggles. The same tech as DroneCoders, mounted on four wheels instead of four props.
CarCoders runs as part of Club Coders regular Sunday sessions at a community centre in Bromsgrove. All equipment is provided — just book, turn up, and get stuck in.
2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 1:30 PM, with masterclasses on 5th Sundays
